Brian Years should get a mention. Iron man at the nationals, just outlasted guys and probably went faster after 30 minutes than he did in the qualifiers.

Cool thread, btw. Nice to see something positive on here.

Yep, Brian was fast, and I liked the fact that he rode the same exact bike as me in 1998, a 1997 Honda CR500. He did something on that bike that I still remember to this day. It was a race at Frozen Ocean and there was a double before the big tabletop that was pretty hard to do on this particular day. The track was greasy and you had to hit it just right. Most riders were not doing it. Brian had crashed right before it, and then he picked up his bike, and then basically doubled it from almost a standstill. I was amazed and impressed that he could do that. I think he got hurt pretty bad at Palmyra later on that season, and I have not seen him since.

On a related note, I think Corey Kandefer could be in the top twenty. He was, and still is, fast with a capital speed.

wnymotocross.com - keeping it positive since 2008. OK, maybe just since this afternoon.

I only remember Brian #327 winning locally one time, yet when it came to qualifying at the nationals he would make the field (regularly) when those same guys that beat him at home seldom did. He was a great Guy. Speaking of jumping, who was your favorite. I remember a rider that considered himself WNY's best jumper although I couldn't agree. For me, Pete Malyj had the skills. I also remember Chris Coleman one night @ F.O.Supercross. They had a finish line tabletop with a triple right after it. Chris jumped the tabletop and landed on the first jump of the triple!! That was insane. Who do you think can jump?

They had a jump off at intermission at the old Batavia track. Some guy nicknamed gumby (kurt holzer) jumped off the old horseshoe downhill jump and flat landed it. Cost him a radiator and triple clamps but he got reimbursed with a pat on the back. We have it better now than we realize.

Thanks for the compliments, however the guys you all are mentioning are in a different league than myself. I did have the pleasure to line-up and race most of them, which in itself is a great accomplishment. Racing at that level involves giving up what most of us consider a "normal life". In order to take that next step you need to put alot of thing on hold and dedicate your life to mx.

I had Doug Henry show up at the Track this past summer and he talked highly of Frozen Ocean, he remembered racing there as a young guy. It was cool to meet the rider that was the first to make the 4 stroke go fast!

Best Jumper in WNY- Paul Carpenter, on 80cc claped out Honda he was going outside the burm to clear a monster triple at the Erie County Fair, that the pros Davey Yezek and Dag Boyesen were not doing on 250's, These guys were the leaders. I think Paul was 14, we were in the same class. He also recently place in the top 10 in the Monster energy AMA supercross. I think that might warent the jumper claim?

You guys are way off regarding the "best" jumper. Check out who was 3rd in the 1994 Summer Series 125 Amateur class:

And dw834, I mentioned 349 several posts ago. Please pay attention, and as always, PBQ&RYM.

Just thinking, the last guy, besides Pauly, that I saw qualify for a national was my little buddy Caleb Miller. That kid had alot of skill and alot of bad luck.

I was lucy enough to get second in the Batavia jump off.

After practice everyone knew Kurt was going to win. We were all jumping for second.

For me the most impressive jumps I have seen:

Paul Carpenter and Casey Higgins doing the fly off at Palmyra on 80's.

and

Doug Henry doing the down hill double after the finish line at Broome. I think he was the only one doing all day.

Geez, I just realized that nobody has mentioned Jeremy Tiffany yet. He is faster than a bride's nightie.
