Agreed....always seems to be a lot of Experts in the Open Beginner Class.
White background / Black numbers = Open Expert |

I might be the only rider in Sr. B to run the correct color combo. Kudos to me.
BTW, running am plates (black numbers on a yellow background) costs me a second or two a lap. I am positive that if I ran black numbers on a white background my lap times would be better. I would look waaaayyyyyy faster.
The only riders that should be exempt from running the correct colors are owners of 2004 Yamaha YZ450F's. Putting backgrounds on the right side number plate of this bike is like putting backgrounds on a bowling ball. It is almost impossible to put it on without big ugly wrinkles. Wrinkly sigh.

CNY which is AMA has a beginner class. The AMA districts can pick amd choose to run any AMA class that are in there rules. So AMA does offer that class. Agreed that 95% of the mini's would be way over there heads in the AM class. The beginner should be allowed at the max one season in that class, regardless of not earning enough points. Who is going to pay a full gate of Experts ? 40 @ 30 = 1200 @ 200% = 2400 then add another 1500 for the 250 and Sr A riders. You would have to have 450- 500 for a bare mininmum sign up to pay these guys. Or you could raise the price for the rest of the riders to subsidize the Experts that you want to see on the line. Nov's and Ams will sandbag for whatever reason they can come up with, happens all over the country, soooo I would say fuhhgetaboutit Goobs says run with the big dogs if you got it in you. |

| I stand corrected....when did CNY start a Beginner class? It always used to be only Nov/AM/EX with Donna D. always lecturing that WNY Novices had to race AM in D3. |

CNY started it this year. One reason may have to do with the Top Gun Series. They may have seen the advantages to this clas as well. IF you are a true beginner it may be very intimindating to line up with some very fast Novs and a full gate most of the time.So maybe some just opted out or went to another district that offered it. The Novice class has fielded more riders than Beg. and Am's in just about every district. I understand Daves point. I also understand the Promoters point of making it a little harder to become a Expert. Then again the fast Am's at some time see the light $$. You could take it one step further and just run 6 class's no ranking, 55/65/85/125/250/450 and give each class 1/2 hour motos. I think your are defeating the main purpose of the big 4 class's. For that matter is it fair that a local Expert has to race against Pro riders? They are on a whole different level yet they get to "take" your money. I see that at Frozen many a day as Kiniry,Eastman Carpenter,Phinney,Drake,Burke,Ryan Mills, Mitch Doughtery[25th a couple Nats ago] Shatrau along with Mays now at LL in the Pro class and the likes line there pockets with the locals entry fee's. Phinney just finished 11th and Willy 19th in the open class at the Canadian Nat's last weekend. Keast who has raced at 51 was 3rd or 4th along with Burke placing in the top 15. I would venture to say we will always have a beginner class and a low turnout in the Experts. As Dave mentioned when they hit 17-18 and reach Expert, life catches up with many, Jobs,Girls,College,Girls,Cars, Girls,Summertime fun and "partying" with girls, Health Insurance, there own independance, not having to listen to Dad at the track and most of all Girls! Why not eliminate Am's that would be doing just about the same thing as eliminating Beginners. Goobs says enjoy what you have as things whip by oh so fast. |

BAH!!! Run A,B,C and give more laps. Points advancement will level competition. If you are going to race bikes do a little practice before lining up. It works everywhere in America. Letting little junior get his a** handed to him builds character. The next time he or she will try harder.

| Dave has brought up a very good point. There has always been conflicts between CNYMA and WNYMA on class structure. If you were a beginner in WNYMA,and raced at CNYMA,they made you run novice, and then when you came back to WNYMA,Terry made you race novice because you raced that class there. So the class rules were never followed to begin with. One thing I'll say to address goober's statement about the expert class is that 10 years ago we wondered the same thing, but as it plays out they are really only just local fast guys. That's why they aren't racing somewhere else. Anyone can move up to expert anytime they want.My opinion is that as the tracks are suffering from the spread out attendance, more classes equates to more sign up money for them, which comes back to what Dave said about how long can a given track stay viable. Dave has a lot of good ideas and his statements are always unbiased and always make sense. I can't understand why he isn't on the board of both organizations. |

How about an advancment system for the age group classes? I feel bad for Tiffany when often times he's the only guy in the Vet A moto. I'd like to move up to Vet A after Loretta's but I sure as hell don't wanna get my ass kicked by the only other guy in the class.

Lower the points needed in Beginner and Novice to move up. Top 3 trophy in Beginner and thats it. Once you win a certain amount of races in Novice your bumped up to Am.
rules are meant to be broken! |
