Motocross Invades Swain Ski Slopes
Swain, NY (July 26, 2010) The 2010 calendar of summer events at Swain Resort now includes motocross, officially named Swain Mountain Motocross. Swain Mountain Motocross is sponsored by Arkport Cycles of Arkport, NY and MotoOption of Ontario, NY. The race schedule kicks off August 7 with a professional rider payout of $3000. Additional races are slated for September 11 and October 2.
The motocross track at Swain spans the width of several ski slopes and is approximately 1 mile long. Much of the track can be seen from the lodge and viewing area below, while the ski lift carries spectators over the track to an upper viewing area. The Shawmut Pub, the slopeside bar & grill at Swain Resort, opens during each race and live bands are scheduled to perform after each race.
Each race is open to all riders for a fee of $20-$25, based on bike size. Spectators are encouraged to attend. The gate fee for spectators is $10.
Gates open Friday 2pm- 11pm before ea. Event and 7am race days.
More info. At swain.com or swain Mountain Motocross on facebook.
For rider information call Joe Ellington at (607) 382-2223.

Joe,what exactly does $3000 dollar professional payout mean? Can local experts take part in the 3k opportunity,or is it only for privateers hoping to make some cash on their way to Unadilla? You can explain if you want or not,but if you want to attract an audience at your track, giving money to strangers isn't the way to do it.Give the 3 grand to local riders and spread it between the classes. If anyone wanted to watch those guys race, they will just go to Unadilla.I have said it before many times,if there is sponsorship money available ,distribute it randomly to the riders. There is only a few local fast guys, and if the prizes were distributed at random,it would encourage the ones that aren't.That would make more sense to me if you are trying to attract more riders at your track. You just kicked everyone in the ass with your 3k pro payout. If I were promoting that track,I would impress everyone with a 3k payout for the local riders. Although you are giving a good deal to the riders,"(Each race is open to all riders for a fee of $20-$25, based on bike size. Spectators are encouraged to attend. The gate fee for spectators is $10)".So at least you're not charging the riders a gate fee. That will definitely help.Do you want a once a year race track, for pro's,or a track for the local riders? Look at the L at Air story. I think you have a long process to become viable. You have a lot of competition.Maybe my skicross idea will come to fruition. I don't wish ill on anyone,it's not in my nature,so good luck to you.I hope you are successful.

I'm still cool with ya Joe. I'm just your proof reader. Better to have the details correct on here than to be fightin with everyone at sign-up or at the gate. Good Luck.

Thanks for the offer Joe,but he's in school. But maybe I'll take you up on it at a Swain race next summer,if your offer is still open then. Cya brought up a good point that I had not thought of. Some people might like a Saturday race. It gives Sunday off. Chill on Friday nite,(maybe the wet t-shirt contest could take place then),race Saturday, and chill at home on Sunday. It's another option for riders. Is there a place for motorhomes to park with their trailers?

mx5471, you should have asked your son (someone with a clue) about Swains $3000.00 Professional purse. All professional payouts are available to any expert ranking rider. Of course they would have to buy a pro license to race the nationals. "All" experts know this.

For those of you that have seen a race on TV or live, (5471) you're not quite ready to start promoting races. You would need to know some of the basics to start with like:

1. Giving money to strangers? Local races have to pay whoever finish in the money, regardless of one's address.

2. Pro, Professional, Privateer. Is there a difference? Someday you may be able to answer this.

3. Supporting a rider by means of a benefit dinner. That is a great idea. Glad we could all be a part of it. Go Eric!!

mxracer,I could say a lot of things about those things, but I won't. If you read what was said, you will understand. Have some one else read it to you,and you may change your mind. There are tracks closing all over the country. In western new york there are more tracks opening. The competition for riders is tough in this economy. But you know what? As I think about it,it's all cool. It's America being rebuilt in our own backyard. Put out a product and compete with the other comparable products. The new tracks have some differences, which they think will attract riders.Air with family promotions,Swain with Saturday races. It's all good. As I said before ,you can't blame anyone for trying.Saturday races may catch on,and I think I like it.Family weekends may catch on too. Like any business, if you have enough customers you make out,if not you don't. This is a prime time for all track promoters to keep on their toes and not get complacent because there are so many tracks and not enough riders to support them all.

Maybe you start with the basics.18 to 24,25+,and senior, which is 30 plus. As for stock or mod, maybe Cya would volunteer to be the judge.
